Virginia's Matt Salmela hit a two-run homer as part of a four-run second inning to lead the Blue Devils past Proctor in a first-round game at home.

Travis Hedley and Dustin Benz had two hits each for the Blue Devils (14-7).

Virginia's Derek Shoden threw a complete-game five-hitter with eight strikeouts.

The Blue Devils play host to Cloquet in the quarterfinals at 4:30 p.m. Thursday.
