Rails baseball loses road opener

The Proctor High School baseball team traveled to Chisago Lakes for their season opener.

Things looked good for the Rails heading into the sixth inning with a 2-1 lead. Then the Chisago Lakes offense came alive. The Rails allowed four runs for the 5-2 loss.

Ryan Vanderscheuren started the day on the pitcher's mound. He threw four and a half solid innings. He allowed just one run while striking out two batters.

Ryan Walsh came in as a relief hurler for one inning, before Bud Brandon Tessier checked into the pitching lineup as the closer. "Bud (Tessier) did a nice job," added [Coach Tim] Rohweder.

Nate Ellison led the Rails offense when he went 2-for-3 at the plate. Tessier had one hit in three trips to the plate, as he drove in one of the Rails' two runs.

Proctor was slated to open the home season last Thursday, but heavy rain and soggy fields forced the delay of that game against Grand Rapids. The game is to be played this afternoon (Thurs.) at Egerdahl Field.

The game originally scheduled for today against Two Harbors has been moved to a later date because of a conflict with other school activities that would have left the Agates short of players.
