Rails break winless streak

The Proctor Rails baseball team carved out thier first win of the season Mon. at Egerdahl Field against Two Harbors, 18-7.

Things looked doubtful whether the game would be played out when in the second inning with the Rails sitting on a shaky 2-1 lead, the rain began to fall. Though hardly a downpour, east winds off of Lake Superior made for very cold conditions. Fortunately, the showers were short-lived and the game went the distance for the Rails' first win of the regular season.

During the early innings, every time Proctor would open any sort of lead Two Harbors would come back with a run or two to keep within striking distance. In fact, the visitors did briefly grab the lead midway through the game. That is when the Rails' bats turned up the heat to not only retake the lead, but to blow open a serious lead that the Agates could not counter.

In the latter half of the game, Mike Pehl scattered four hits in five trips to the plate, including a home run, a triple, and a pair of doubles. The scattering of extra base hits resulted in five RBI's for the senior catcher. Zach Shaw added a home run of his own and four RBI's as this slugger logged three hits in five trips to the plate.

Proctor did grab that first win for a 1-6 season record.
