Proctor nipped in 10th
NORTH BRANCH, Minn. -- Proctor pitcher Lee Stephenson was one pitch away from shutting out North Branch in the Region 7AA South high school baseball tournament Wednesday, but instead suffered a 3-2 loss in 10 innings.
North Branch's Al Martinson hit a two-out, 0-2 pitch for a two-run home run, tying the game in the bottom of the seventh.
The Vikings won the game in the 10th when winning pitcher Tim Carr scored John Vaughn with a suicide squeeze bunt.
Mark Kieren had two hits and scored a run for Proctor.
Stephenson gave up six hits and struck out 10. Carr allowed five hits and fanned 10.
The Rails close the season with an 8-8 record. North Branch takes an 11-5 mark into the regional tournament.
