The Spartans scored two runs in the second inning, one in the first, and two more in the fourth, before three errors in the fifth inning helped the Rails climb within 5-4.

Superior proceeded to go out in order in the fifth, sixth, and seventh innings and Proctor took advantage of another Spartan error and a walk to set up a game-winning three-run home run by Jay Dardis in the bottom of the seventh.

The loss drops Superior to 2-4 overall and 2-2 in the Lake Superior Conference.

"We failed to make the routine plays and it cost us the game," said SSHS Head Coach Steve Fregin. "When you get up 5-0 in a game, you have to go for the jugular."
