Cloquet's Crowley tosses no-hitter

Pitcher records 12 strikeouts to beat Proctor

Joe Crowley tossed a five-inning no-hitter and struck out 12 to lead Cloquet to a 15-0 shutout at Proctor in a high school baseball game Thursday.

Paul Riess had a double, a triple and three RBIs and Adam Laaksonen was 2-for-2 with two RBIs for Cloquet (9-1), the News-Tribune's second-ranked Class AA team.

Proctor fell to 4-6 [sic].

...The Rails returned to their home diamond for a LSC outing against one of the top teams in the area - Cloquet.

Before the day was out, Rails coaches, players, and fans were wishing the day had been a rain-out. Lumberjacks pitcher Joe Crowley hurled a no-hitter, while the visitor shredded Proctor by a 15-0 margin.

It was hurler Chad Ward who took the pounding on the mound for the home crew.
