Denfeld stops Proctor in 8

Cory Messel's two-out single in the eighth inning drove in Jim Todorovich with the winning run as Duluth Denfeld defeated Proctor 6-5 Tuesday in a Section 7AA high school baseball playoff game at Wade Stadium.

Nathan Bush hit a two-run single in the seventh inning to put the Rails ahead 5-3.

The Hunters scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh to tie it 5-5. John Randby walked with the bases loaded and Corey Verhel was hit by a pitch also with the bases loaded.

Messel and Bob Baxton each had three hits for Denfeld.

Winning pitcher Jason Belich worked 3 2/3 innings. Bush and Steve Rodberg each had two hits for Proctor.

Denfeld, 11-8, plays at Grand Rapids Thursday.

Season ends at Wade

The Proctor Rails boys baseball team lost to Denfeld 6-5 last Tues., May 28, in a Section 7AA high school playoff game at Wade stadium.

A two-run single in the seventh inning by Nathan Bush put Proctor ahead 5-3.

A bases-loaded walk and a hit batter with the bags filled allowed Denfeld to tie the Rails.

Steve Rodberg and Bush each had two hits.
