Cloquet, Central win

CLOQUET -- Cloquet upset Proctor 1-0 and Duluth Central defeated North Branch 9-4 in the Sub-Region 2 semifinals Tuesday.

Cloquet and Central now meet here at 3:30 p.m. today for the sub-region championship.

Proctor and Cloquet were locked in a scoreless game until the bottom [sic] of the sixth inning. With two out, the bases were loaded by Proctor on a walk, an error and an infield hit. Freshman Joe Beaupre then walked on a 3-1 count, forcing Dennis Conklin home from third with the eventual winning run.

Both teams had just three hits. Conklin was the winning pitcher. Bill Richardson of Proctor faced all but the final batter before being relieved by Nik Peterson. Cloquet is now 9-8 and Proctor finished at 13-3.

Central scored three runs in the first inning to lead the entire way in its victory. Keith Shaw led the Trojans with three hits and five RBI. John Decaro also had three Central hits.

Dave Patterson, allowing seven hits and striking out four, was the winning pitcher.
