Superior staved off Proctor's three-run rally in the top of the seventh to win the Lake Superior Conference baseball game, 4-3, played at the NBC Sports Complex in Superior on Tues., May 9.

Gunner Johnson put Superior ahead 2-0 with a two-run single with two outs in the second inning. The Spartans tacked on another run in the third on a sacrifice fly by Justin Reinkall. Superior made it 4-0 in the sixth when Dominic D'Auria scored when Brandon Wing reached on an error.

In Proctor's seventh, Blake Koski led off by getting hit by a pitch, pinch-hitter Ryan Lear singled with one out, and Reid Morin singled with two outs to load the bases. Luke Nordquist walked, forcing in Koski, and John Aase hit a two-run double that plated Lear and Morin.

Winning pitcher Wing worked five shutout innings and allowed two hits and two walks with four strikeouts. Reliever Reinkall allowed three runs on three hits, two walks, and one hit batsman. He had four strikeouts.

Losing pitcher Mason Flick (0-2 W-L, 1.75 ERA) threw a one-hitter in his first varsity start. He allowed four runs (all unearned) on one hit and one walk with three strikeouts.

Ricky Steel singled in the third inning for his first varsity hit.

Proctor, 5-3, hosts Cloquet in a conference game on Thursday, May 11, at 4:30 p.m.
