PROCTOR -- Proctor shut out Greenway 10-0 in five innings in a non-conference baseball game in the Rails' home opener. Ben Nelson (2-0, 0.00 ERA) earned the win by throwing the first four-and-two-thirds innings. He allowed one hit and one walk with five strikeouts. Matt Morris made his varsity pitching debut by striking out the final batter.

The Rails scored three runs in the second inning on an RBI single by Joe Carter and a two-run single by Paul Hegstrom. Proctor added three more runs in the third inning when Morris reached on an error driving in a run, a run scored on a double play, and Jake Malec hit an RBI single. Proctor plated four runs in the fourth inning on an RBI single by Isaac Scherber, a double steal, an RBI double by Carter, and an error.

The Rails had 10 hits. Carter was 2-for-3 with a double, two RBIs, and a run. Malec was 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run, and Hegstrom was 2-for-2 with two RBIs and a run. Jimmy Merling, Matt Dolsen, Jimmy Merrill, and Scherber contributed one hit apiece.

Proctor improved to 2-1; Greenway dropped to 0-7.
