ASHLAND -- The Ashland Oredockers defeated the Proctor Rails in a Lake Superior Conference baseball game on Saturday, May 11, at Lumberjack Field on the Northland College campus. Zach Huybrecht was the winning pitcher. He threw a complete game and allowed two runs on four hits, two walks, and two hit batsmen with four strikeouts.

Proctor struck first with a run in the third inning when Shane Gould scored on Jimmy Merling's RBI ground ball. Ashland took a 2-1 lead in the bottom half of the third on two hits and two Proctor errors.

Ashland chased Proctor starter Paul Hegstrom with one out in the fourth inning. Ashland ended up scoring four runs in the fourth on two hits, two walks, and one error. Ashland added an insurance run on the sixth on two hits, a walk, and an error.

Hegstrom was the losing pitcher. He allowed five earned runs on seven hits, two walks, and a hit batsman. Matt Morris pitched the final 2.2 innings and allowed one unearned run on two hits and a walk.

Merling and Hegstrom had RBIs for Proctor. The Rails managed just four hits: singles by Merling, Ben Nelson, Jimmy Merrill, and Jack Nikko. Proctor is now 2-3.
