DULUTH -- Proctor defeated Duluth Marshall, 18-4, in a Lake Superior Conference baseball game at Wade Stadium on Tuesday, May 11.

Marshall tallied first, with an RBI single by Finn Prell after a two-out triple by Mason Boos in the bottom of the first inning.

Conner Pavlowich knocked a three-run double, stole third, and scored on a wild pitch for a 4-1 Proctor edge in the second. Proctor made the score 7-1 in the third on a two-run triple by Tanner Olson and a sacrifice fly by AJ Reyelts.

The Rails reached the 10-run margin with a four-run fifth that included two-run singles by Josh Monreal and Sam Johnson.

Facing the threat of the game being called after five innings, the Hilltoppers rallied for three runs in the bottom half to prolong the contest. Marshall chalked up four hits--including a two-run single by Daniel Johnson--and a walk in the frame.

A 15-minute delay occured while the Rails were batting in the top of the seventh as the stadium's lights went out due to a timer. The break in the action benefited the Proctor batsmen as they went on to score seven runs on four hits, three walks, and three Marshall errors after play resumed. Nolan McLeod banged a two-run single and Monreal connected for a three-run single for the big hits.

All nine Rails batters nicked the hit column as they combined for 14 safeties. Pavlowich, McLeod, Olson, Monreal, and Johnson had two hits apiece. McLeod, Monreal, and Carson Pavlowich (as catcher Olson's courtesy runner) each scored three runs. Monreal had five RBI and Pavlowich had three RBI. Olson tied the school record with two triples in a game.

Starting pitcher Grant Walker (4-0, 3.05 ERA) tossed five innings for the win. He allowed four runs on six hits and six walks with two strikeouts. Reliever Tanner Ross retired all six batters he faced in his two innings of work that included striking out the side in the final frame. He had five strikeouts.

Prell was tagged with the loss. He allowed seven runs on three hits, five walks, and a hit batsman with one strikeout in two innings. He faced three batters in the third.

Proctor, 6-5, hosts Aitkin on Thursday, May 13, at 4:30 p.m.
