Spartans Blank Visiting Rails
Superior Evening Telegram, May 6, 1972

The Superior Senior Spartans baseball team gathered another season victory at home Friday afternoon despite rainy weather by downing Proctor 6-0, with pitcher Dan Morgan doing everything right.

Senior scored a pair of runs in the first inning on a double hit by shortstop Steve Olson scoring Darrell Keene and passed ball scoring Olson. The Spartans other big inning was the second, which started off with catcher John Roeber gaining first after being hit by a pitch. Roeber ran to second on a passed ball. Paul Sandvick slammed a long single and Roeber scored. Sandvick then stole second base and Keene singled to score Sandvick. A later sacrifice by Morgan scored Dunphy for the third run.

The Spartans' final run came in the fourth inning when Morgan stepped to the plate and drove the ball over the fence at the 340 mark for the game's only homer and Senior's sixth and final run to blank the visiting Rails.

Senior will be idle until later next week, with only tentative games scheduled mainly due to wet conditions because of heavy spring rains in the area.
