Lakers 11 & 3
Proctor 3 & 2

by Jerry DeRungs

On a miserable day that certainly wasn't made for playing baseball, the Lakers took on the Proctor Rails in a doubleheader on Saturday, April 26. With loyal fans all bundled up to watch the games, the Lakers swept the doubleheader from the Rails for the second year in a row, 11-4 and 3-2.

Despite the cold weather, the Lakers made another comeback performance. The Rails jumped on pitcher Ted Ryden for two runs in the first and two runs in the third. With a four-run lead going into the bottom of the third inning the Lakers finally got on track. The Lakers scored three runs in the bottom of the third inning and cut the lead to one run.

In the following inning, the Lakers really went to town as they batted around and bent the Rails for seven runs to put away the game. The Lakers added one run in the sixth inning to make the final tally 11-4.

Ted Ryden scattered seven hits in picking up his second win in as many starts. Keith Carlson led the way with the bat as he picked up two of the Lakers eight hits.

In the second game of the doubleheader the Lakers took the lead first. Pushing across two runs in the third and one in the fourth, the Lakers had a three-run lead.

In the bottom of the fourth inning the Rails pushed across two runs of their own and cut the margin to 3-2. Bruce Lohman held out for three more innings, but needed help in the end from Ted Ryden for the final two outs.

The Lakers' record now stands at 4-0 with many important games to come.
