PROCTOR -- The Proctor Rails opened their 2022 season by defeating Duluth Marshall, 5-0, in a Lake Superior Conference baseball game on Thursday.

Nick Terhaar and Wyatt Mineheine combined on the shutout. Terhaar (1-0, 0.00 ERA) earned his first varsity win. He pitched the first five innings and allowed two hits and four walks with six strikeouts. Mineheine tossed two innings in relief and allowed two hits and two walks with three strikeouts in his varsity debut.

Proctor plated four runs in the third inning. Tanner Ross led off with a single, advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Josh Risdall, and scored on an RBI double by AJ Reyelts. Reyelts advanced to third on Carson Pavlowich's single and scored on a double steal. Nolan McLeod's two-out RBI single scored Pavlowich, and McLeod took second on the play. McLeod scored on an RBI single by Terhaar.

The Rails scored an insurance run in the sixth when McLeod led off with a single, took two bases on a wild pitch, and scored on an RBI groundout by Terhaar.

McLeod had two hits and two runs to pace the Rails. Terhaar had two RBI and Reyelts had two stolen bases.

Marshall loaded the bases with two outs in the seventh before Mineheine induced a fly out to end the game.

Losing pitcher Owen Marsolek allowed four runs on five hits and one walk with six strikeouts in three innings. Mason Boos relieved. He allowed one run on one hit with three strikeouts in three innings.

Boos collected two of Marshall's four hits.

Proctor, 1-0, is home against Rock Ridge on Friday, April 22.
