SUPERIOR -- Duluth Marshall captured the 2022 Section 7AA Championship by defeating Proctor, 8-4, here on Thursday evening.
Marshall started the scoring with a three-run third inning and added four runs in the fourth for a 7-0 lead.
Tanner Olson's RBI double scored AJ Reyelts from first base in the sixth for a 7-1 score, but Marshall scored a lone run in its half of the inning to make the score 8-1.
The Rails rallied in the top of the seventh. Kennan Reyelts singled with one out and Nick Terhaar walked before Ryan Schubitzke's single loaded the bases. AJ Reyelts then hit a two-run single. He and Ryan Schubitzke were each awarded a base on defensive obstruction during the play. Schubitzke then scored the game's final run on a sacrifice fly by Olson.
AJ Reyelts and Sam Johnson had two hits apiece while AJ Reyelts and Olson had two RBI for Proctor.
Grant Walker (1-5, 5.71 ERA) took the loss. He allowed six runs on five hits and four walks in three and one-third innings. He had three strikeouts.
Duluth Marshall, now 17-5, advances to the state tournament. Proctor finished the season with a 17-9 record, good for fourth most wins in school history.
