PROCTOR -- Proctor defeated Mesabi East, 8-3, in a non-conference baseball game here on Thursday in the Rails' home opener.

Winning pitcher Tyler Berglund (1-0 W-L, 0.00 ERA) took a no-hitter into the seventh inning but settled on a two-hitter with one walk and zero earned runs. He had four strikeouts.

Wyatt Mineheine, Tanner Ross, and Nick Terhaar had two hits apiece in the Rails' 10-hit attack. Mineheine connected for a triple to lead off the bottom of the first and Terhaar cracked a two-run double in the sixth for Proctor's extra-base hits.

Proctor took a 1-0 lead in the first as Mineheine scored on Berglund's sacrifice fly. The Rails scored three in the second frame but Mesabi East quashed their chance to break the game open by turning a double play with the bases loaded and one out.

The Giants cut into the 4-0 lead by plating a run on two errors in the fourth.

Dom Gingerelli scored on Tanner Ross's RBI single in the fourth for a 5-1 lead.

Terhaar scored the Rails' final run on an error when he hit his double in the sixth.

Mesabi East scored two runs on two hits and an error in the seventh.

Proctor, now 2-0, is at Moose Lake-Willow River on Tuesday, April 16.
